How this site decides what makes it into a guide — and what gets left out.

What this site does

This is an independent editorial operation. We publish guides and comparisons of assistive technology, from $25 switches to $8,000 AAC systems, written for the people who actually have to choose: individuals, families, OTs, and SLPs. The judgment behind it comes from years spent around procurement decisions and production floors — watching spec sheets meet real budgets and real classrooms. We read what owners report months in, weigh the math, and translate it into plain language.

How we evaluate

  • We start with what an owner actually has to do — set it up, carry it, charge it, get it repaired.
  • We compare against owner reports from disability communities, caregiver groups, and clinician discussion, not launch-day copy.
  • We weigh total cost of ownership: the device, the accessories, the mounting, the subscription, the replacement cycle.
  • We sort options into tiers by fit — not by brand — so the cheapest workable answer gets named when it is the right one.
  • We flag where a product's marketing language and what owners describe six months in diverge.
